(sportingnews) Denny Hamlin has been diagnosed with a compression fracture in his lower back and his status for next week’s race at Martinsville Speedway is undetermined following a hard crash on the final lap of the Auto Club 400 Sunday.
Hamlin, 10th in the Sprint Cup standings after five races, spent Sunday night in a California hospital following the wreck, which occurred while racing Joey Logano for the lead. Hamlin’s car hit a concrete wall head-on on the inside of the track.
Joe Gibbs Racing released a statement Monday stating that Hamlin would be evaluated later this week by NASCAR consultant Dr. Jerry Petty of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates.
